BECOMING A PRIVATEER

 The Anna Maria Island Privateers, Inc. is a Florida 501(c)3 not for profit corporation. The corporation is operated by the all volunteer membership to promote activities for the betterment of youth, to render altruistic services to the community and participate in area events.
To become a Privateer, an individual must be well known to the membership as enthusiastic and willing to pitch in and work hard.  If you are interested in becoming a Privateer, we invite you to attend one of our meetings held on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month.  Our membership application can be found clicking on the link below. 

Please follow the following steps to become a member of the Anna Maria Island Privateers

1)  Please join us at a couple meetings and maybe a couple events to get to know the Krewe.  The next scheduled meeting and/or event can be found on the event page.

2) If you believe you would like to join us, please print the application below, fill it out, and give it to a Board member at the next meeting, along with $30.  We take cash and checks.  You will then be sent a link to get your background check done.  We do our checks through Sterling Volunteers, and your check can then be used with any volunteer organization that also uses Sterling Volunteers.  The cost for the check is $19.99.

3)  Once you pass your background check, you are considered a Red Shirt, not yet an official member of the Privateers.  Your Red Shirt period is a time to find your Black Shirt sponsor.  This sponsor must be in Good Standing.  Your sponsor is responsible for teaching you the ins and outs of being an AMI Privateer.  The person you choose is your Black Shirt forever so choose wisely.

4) Once you have found your sponsor you will be brought before the Krewe to receive your Gray Shirt.  As a Gray Shirt you are a probationary member of the Privateers.  Your Gray Shirt stage will last a minimum of 6 months during which you must show the Krewe that you are enthusiastic and willing to pitch in and work hard

Red Shirt: An applicant to be considered for Gray Shirt membership

 Gray Shirt: A probationary membership requiring sponsorship by a Black Shirt member.

Black Shirt: A Full and active member in good standing.

Sustaining: Board Recommended; Krewe Selected - A full member that is unable to maintain black shirt status for whatever reason(s).

Privileged: Board Recommended, Krewe Selected - A lifetime member that is granted by virtue of service.
